Hok-Si-La Park

Hok-Si-La Park Beach Picking Trip

**Due to the April 28th trip being full, and numerous requests to add more people, this second trip has been added to hopefully accommodate everyone who was unable to sign up for the first trip.**

Trip Leader: Jennifer Sorenson

When: Saturday, May 4th 2019 at 10:00 am to 4:00pm

Where: Hok-Si-La City Park, 2500 North Hwy 61, Lake City, MN 55041

Meeting Location: We will meet at the Hok-Si-La Park in the parking lot

Type of Mineral/Rock Collected: Quartz, granite, jasper, agate, carnelian, and much more.

Trip Description: Hok-Si-La is a 252 acre, municipally owned and operated park located on the Minnesota side of Lake Pepin.  The park offers spectacular views of the Mississippi River, Lake Pepin, and the surrounding bluffs. We will take the day to explore the mile long stretch of Mississippi River shoreline and do some rock picking. The park allows agate collecting. Early May will be a good time to see what hidden treasures the ice may have uncovered over the winter. For more info on Hok-Si-La Park:                      http://www.hoksilapark.org/home.html

Collecting Fees: None.

Rockhound Tools Needed: A small bucket, bag, other type of container. Pockets will make do in a pinch. Sturdy closed toes shoes or boots. Possibly a dry change of socks and shoes in case your feet get wet.

Difficulty of Collection Site: There is one small/short hill to descend and climb for access to and from the beach, respectively. Rocky areas of the beach contain uneven terrain. (2/10)

Safety Considerations: We will be on the shore of Lake Pepin. There are no lifeguards on duty. Please approach or enter the water with great caution.

Other Considerations: All ages are welcome, but small children need to be closely supervised at all times. Collecting will be rain or shine, except if there is lightning.

Release Forms: The standard MMC release form can be used for this trip. It is located on the MMC website: https://minnesotamineralclub.org/public-documents/

Please complete in advance, if possible.

I’d like to sign up since I can’t make the re-scheduled visit in mid-May.
